New chief takes the helm at Jonesboro Police Department

JONESBORO, Ga. — A new chief has taken the helm at the Jonesboro Police Department, roughly four months after the previous chief was fired.

New Chief Todd Hoyt was sworn in at an official ceremony last week. He had a long career previously with the Atlanta Police Department and reached the rank of assistant chief.

APD congratulated him on social media on Tuesday.

"Join us in extending heartfelt congratulations to former Assistant Chief Todd Coyt as he embarks on his new journey as the Chief of Jonesboro Police Department!" a post stated. "Your dedication and leadership have been invaluable, and we have no doubt you'll continue to serve with integrity and excellence. Best wishes on this exciting chapter ahead!"

The prior chief, Tommy Henderson, was fired in early January under circumstances that were not fully detailed by the city. Mayor Donya Sartor said at that time she felt "this is the best way to move the city forward."
