WALTON COUNTY, Ga. — A homeowner's attempt to defend himself ended with gunfire Saturday in Walton County, deputies said.
The Walton County Sheriff's Office said they responded to a residence on Chickadee Drive, which is in the south side of the county, around 2 a.m. Saturday for a "shots fired call."
When they arrived, deputies saw a person with gunshot wounds lying outside of the residence. The person died from his injuries, the sheriff's office said.
"According to witness statements and evidence recovered at the scene, the homeowner was defending himself from the deceased, who brandished a weapon and pointed it at the homeowner," the sheriff's office said.
Deputies and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating the shooting. The sheriff's office has not released the names of those involved.
The investigation is ongoing.
