Police: DNA match made on evidence from fatal Barcelona Wine Bar shooting

"This has been about the worst crime I have seen that was captured by a video or surveillance camera," police have said.

ATLANTA -- Police say they've matched DNA evidence from the scene of a fatal shooting at the Barcelona Wine Bar.

In the early morning hours of Nov. 19, police said a trio of robbers entered the Barcelona Wine Bar on Howell Mill Road as employees were closing and demanded money.

Police said the suspects forced 29-year-old Chelsea Beller upstairs to open the safe. She complied, but one of the suspects shot her in the shoulder anyway. She was taken to the hospital and later died.

“This has been about the worst crime I have seen that was captured by a video or surveillance camera,” Atlanta Police Maj. Adam Lee said later.

The suspects carjacked a Lyft driver and fled down 14th Street, police said. A campus police officer noticed the car's headlights and made a U-turn to perform a traffic stop. That's when the suspects turned off of 14th Street.

In that area, police found the abandoned car and items spread throughout, including clothing, latex clothes and masks.

Police also found blood at the scene and believe one of the suspects sustained a significant injury when climbing over a razor wire fence.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19, Atlanta police confirmed that DNA from evidence matches evidence they believe from the wine bar crime scene.

"Our investigation continues as we pursue additional leads resulting from this match and work toward our ultimate goal of finding the perpetrators of this heinous crime," said Atlanta Police Officer S.R. Brown.

A reward of up to $33,000, largely been raised by private donors in order to raise it from the standard $2,000, has been offered by Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or leave an anonymous tip by calling 404-577-TIPS (8477).
