The race for Atlanta's next mayor is ramping up, and most voters appear to not have the state of race at the forefront of their minds.

In an exclusive poll conducted by SurveyUSA, 11Alive asked voters what some of the most important issues they wanted the next leader of Atlanta to tackle. Crime, homelessness and poverty all topped the list of some of the most pressing issues.

However, when it comes to the state of race relations in the city, Atlantans' opinions appear to be pretty middle-of-the-road. When asked whether voters felt relations were excellent, good, fair or poor, the majority of voters felt that they were good to fair.

About 20% of respondents said they thought they were poor. Here is the complete breakdown:

  • 6% said Excellent
  • 31% said Good
  • 43% said Fair
  • 18% said Poor
  • 1% said Not Sure

When asked, "Would you say relations between city residents and police in Atlanta are..." voters' responses were much the same. Seven percent of responders said they felt police-community relations were excellent, while 34% said they were "good." Another 41% said they were "fair" while 16% said they were "poor." The rest were not sure.

In one final question, 11Alive asked voters whether they believed if they have ever been racially profiled by police. A large majority of voters, 59%, responded with a no. A third, 33%, of voters said yes. Eight percent said they were unsure of whether they had been profiled.
