PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Formerly conjoined twin sisters Erika and Eva Sandoval got a chance to see each other today for the first time since undergoing a lengthy separation surgery.

The 2-year-old twins, who once shared multiple organs, are recovering in an intensive care unit at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.

Just a week after their risky surgery, the twins' mother carefully carried Erika from her hospital bed to Eva's bed to say hello.

In a touching moment, the twins were once again side-by-side, and breathing without ventilators as their proud parents watched them share a toy during their reunion.

Hospital officials say they are expected to leave the intensive care unit in about a week, and will continue their recovery at the hospital.
