ATLANTA — It was a record-setting night for a Georgia Tech freshman phenom who is taking college baseball by storm.

Outfielder Drew Burress, who came into Tuesday night's home game versus Georgia State tied for second in home runs all of Division I with five, took the lead and then some with a spectacular showing at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Burress hit four (yes, four!) home runs for the Yellow Jackets Tuesday night, setting the Georgia Tech record for most home runs in a game and catapulting himself into the D1 lead for homers in college baseball with nine in just eight games.

Not only did Burress set the record, but Georgia Tech went on to pitch a four-hit shutout and improve to 7-1 on the year.

Burress, a freshman from Perry, Georgia, and Houston County High School, burst onto the scene in 2022 with 17 home runs and followed it up by hitting .430 with 33 extra-base hits and led his high school to a second state title in three years.

There was serious draft consideration for Burress within the first four rounds of the 2023 MLB Draft, according to Baseball America, but the power-packed 5-foot-9 slugger opted to go to Georgia Tech for his freshman season.

Out of high school, Burress was ranked as the No. 4 outfielder and No. 18 overall prospect nationally by Perfect Game.

It should be a bright season for Burress and Georgia Tech if the freshman can continue on this hitting rampage.
