Grady's Caylin Newton gets 'tough love' from older brother Cam

Cam Newton is good at flashing his smile around.

But when the 2015 NFL MVP and Carolina Panthers quarterback watches his younger brother on the football field, he is extremely critical.

Caylin Newton is Cam's younger brother. He is a senior quarterback at Grady High School in Atlanta.

Caylin is a a three-year starter at the quarterback position, but he also plays a little safety. He told his head coach Earthwind Moreland that he would do anything to help his team win. Moreland took him up on his offer and is now playing him on both sides of the ball.

For Caylin, playing safety is just something he does to get better under center.

"You have to know every position playing quarterback. I feel like that's the hardest position on the field. But if you know every position on the field, it makes it that much easier," he said.

But when older brother Cam is around, Caylin only has two words to describe the way his brother helps.

"Tough love."

But Caylin is more than willing to listen to his brother. After all, Cam did just play in Super Bowl 50 and go up against one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, Peyton Manning.

"You can ask anyone that ever sees me play. If they see (Cam) there, there's going to be some words said and he's going to help me no matter what. He wants the best for me, and he's going to do whatever it takes to make sure I understand my mistakes and he's going to tell me anything to help me."

Caylin has a few smaller colleges schools pursuing him sending out offers, and he recently took an unofficial trip to Auburn, Cam's alma mater.

But he's not letting recruiting get in the way of his senior season. Last season, the Knights made it to the second round of the playoffs. While he hopes to lead them all the way to the state championship this year, Caylin is taking it one game at a time.

Contrary to most athletes who use that typical coach speak, he actually means it. He's only talking about the team's scrimmage against Mays High School right now before looking ahead to the regular season, let alone, the playoffs.
