Georgia Tech's women's basketball coach of 16 years placed on administrative leave

Assistant coach Mark Simons will serve as acting head coach, beginning with Thursday night's game at Miami.

ATLANTA — Georgia Tech women's basketball coach MaChelle Joseph has been placed on administrative leave, effective immediately, the school announced on Wednesday.

Assistant coach Mark Simons will serve as acting head coach, beginning with Thursday night's road trip versus Miami.

Georgia Tech (17-7 overall, 7-7 in ACC) has two remaining regular-season games on the docket (@ Miami, vs. Florida State), before the ACC tournament commences next weekend in Greensboro, N.C.

By most accounts, the Lady Yellow Jackets reside on the proverbial 'bubble' for making the Women's NCAA tournament.

The 49-year-old Joseph has been the head coach at Georgia Tech since 2003, compiling a 310-220 overall record during this span (seven NCAA tourney appearances from 2007-14).

Georgia Tech officials will have no further comment at this time, while the investigation is pending.
