Rams' Johnny Hekker sets Super Bowl record for longest punt

The record-setter ended up as Hekker's eighth punt on the day. But in this odd case, No. 8 ended up being the lucky charm.

ATLANTA — Super Bowl 53 might not have much scoring (putting it mildly), but at least there's a record to report.

Midway through the third quarter on Sunday, Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker set the Super Bowl record for longest punt – a solid, turned extraordinary punt of 65 yards ... thanks to roughly 25 extra yards of fortuitous roll.

The record-setter ended up as Hekker's eighth punt on the day. But in this case, No. 8 ended up being the lucky charm, with Hekker's effort eclipsing Patriots punter Ryan Allen's old record by single yard.

Here's the clip of Hekker's historic punt.

Kudos to CBS announcer Jim Nantz for being on top of the new record in real time.
