American John-Henry Krueger was just far enough ahead to avoid the chaos.
Just before the final lap of the men's 1,000-meter short track race, there was a massive crash that took out all but two of the racers. The skaters slid into the wall as Krueger and Canada's Samuel Girard continued on to the finish.
Krueger won the silver medal, ending America's 8-year individual speed skating drought.
Short track is always thrilling. While exciting, that finish was nothing compared to the crash in 2002 at the Olympics in Salt Lake City.
That wild finish took out all the skaters but Australia's Steven Bradbury. Bradbury was well behind the pack as the other racers fell into the final turn. He cruised right on by to steal the gold medal.
Good times.
