2024 WNBA Draft: Everything you need to know

The 2024 WNBA Draft is set to include players like Caitlin Clark, Kamilla Cardoso, Cameron Brink and Aaliyah Edwards.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — With the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament come and gone, the next step for players looking to make it big is the 2024 WNBA Draft.

When and where is the 2024 WNBA Draft? 

The 2024 WNBA Draft is Monday, April 15 in Brooklyn. The league has expanded the event this year, moving the venue to Brooklyn Academy of Music in order to hold more fans.

“We are focused on creating elevated events that WNBA fans won’t want to miss, at a time when the energy for the WNBA has never been higher,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in late February. “Last season resulted in our most-watched-regular season in over two decades, our highest total attendance in 13 years and set record figures across WNBA digital and social platforms."

The draft begins at 6:30 p.m. CT.

How can I watch the draft? 

The draft will be televised on ESPN and the ESPN app.

Who has the first overall pick?

The Indiana Fever hold the first overall pick and are highly expected to select Caitlin Clark of Iowa. 

The star Hawkeye just finished her senior season, leading Iowa to their second straight national championship game.

The Fever have seen a surge in interest leading up to the draft, selling tickets only two games at a time.

How does the draft work?

There are three rounds in the draft, with 12 picks in each round. Picks can be traded as long as the trades are completed by 4 p.m. CT on Sunday, April 14.

Who else is eligible for the draft?

Cameron Brink of Stanford, Angel Reese of LSU, Kamilla Cardoso of South Carolina, Rickea Jackson of Tennessee and Aaliyah Edwards of UConn are all eligible for the 2024 WNBA Draft.

College players have to be 22 years old in 2024 and renounce any remaining NCAA eligibility to partake in the draft. International players can be 20 years old when entering the draft.

How much do WNBA players make?

The No. 1 overall pick will get the most money on their rookie deal, around $76,000 a year.

The contract for last year's top pick, Aliyah Boston, was three years and $233,648 total.
