Ramps from Georgia 400 and I-285 closing for five weeks

Crews are replacing cement slabs and paving the roadway as a part of the I-285/Georgia 400 transformation

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Commuters who have grown accustomed to change in the area of Georgia 400 and Interstate 285 will face new challenges when Georgia Department of Transportation crews limit access to the Glenridge Connector.

Beginning Friday night, drivers won’t be able to access Glenridge Connector from Georgia 400 southbound or I-285 westbound for five weeks. Crews will close the ramps to replace concrete slabs and repave portions of the roadway.

At Gruby’s New York Deli in Sandy Springs, Ed Willis is sharing the news with his customers. He said the many traffic changes in the area haven’t impacted business yet, but that might change.

“People only have a certain amount of time for lunch, and I don’t think they’ll have the time to maneuver all around the perimeter to get here,” Willis said.

GDOT is offering travelers several detours around the work.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is calling it one of the final steps in its seven-year effort to reconfigure the interchange of Georgia 400 and I-285.

It’s been an interesting few months for drivers in the area. Changes left many confused about how to access Glenridge Connector until the issue was rectified with the opening of a brand new ramp. It’s the ramp that is now temporarily closing for extra work.

“Hey it’s been happening since I was a toddler,” Willis said of the I-285/400 project. “I wish they’d put an end to it.”

For Willis and others, it’s one more challenge brought by a major road project now in its seventh year.
