26-year-old woman dies after crashing into back of dump truck on I-285

Here's what we know.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 26-year-old woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a crash on I-285 in DeKalb County has died, according to Dunwoody Police.

A news release was sent out on Saturday about the incident that happened in the early morning, just before 3 a.m. 

Dunwoody PD said in a release that the woman was driving a Ford Mustang when she "struck the rear of a dump truck" and then "became lodged underneath the dump truck."

The police department described the two vehicles then continuing to travel ways, with the dump truck dragging the Mustang, before coming to a stop.

"DeKalb Fire and AMR arrived, extracted the driver of the Ford Mustang, and began life saving measures," Dunwoody PD said. 

She was taken to Grady Hospital to be treated for injuries considered life-threatening where she later died. Police said the dump truck driver was not injured.

The incident had lanes closed for multiple hours in the area through the early morning.
