The rounds of showers and storms from Wednesday night and early Thursday brought damaging winds and heavy rainfall to parts of north Georgia. Some of the peak rain totals were across far north Georgia -- some rain totals were around 6 inches!
Ellijay also picked up significant damage from strong winds and a possible tornado. The National Weather Service from Peachtree City will be out surveying damage the damage on Friday.
After a break, another window for storms opens up overnight and early Friday. This time around, the greatest severe weather risk will stay south of our area altogether.
Storms that developed over Alabama clip parts of our area early tonight. This rain will follow near and south of I-20.
And then another round of storms will be possible tomorrow morning for the Atlanta area, south toward the Macon region.
The Storm Prediction center leaves the far southwest side of the metro in a Level 1 threat of severe weather for the time frame. A Level 2 threat is in effect for extreme SW parts of our viewing area. The bulk of the severe weather should stay south of our area.
The early morning shower/storm activity exits, then sunshine makes a comeback for the afternoon. Gusty northwest winds are expected. This will bring in drier, cooler air for the weekend.
Temperatures fall to the 50s for lows and 70s for highs from Saturday through Monday under a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky each day. This will make for great conditions arriving in time for Mother's Day.
Temps early next week stay in the upper 70s with increasing daily showers and storms by Tuesday.
