Forecast | Rain chances return this week after a dry Mother's Day

Expect a decent amount of rain to occur this week after our beautiful Mother's Day in north Georgia

ATLANTA —

Quick Forecast:

Sunday: Refreshingly cool start. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. High: 80°.
Saturday night: Mostly cloudy. Low: 59°.
Monday: Mostly cloudy to cloudy.  Scattered showers. High: 70°.

Discussion:

We were very lucky Friday night to have the northern lights, but unfortunately, we ended up missing out on seeing them last night. The Geomagnetic Storm Index is still at a G4 level and will continue to be at that level for this afternoon and into this evening.

If the northern lights even manage to make it as far south as north Georgia again tonight, star-gazers will have to battle with cloud cover moving in. Hopefully we will get one more chance to see this extremely rare event.

Of course, it is also Mother's Day and many will be out celebrating. Expect no chance for rain today with temperatures in the 70s to 80s for highs with a partly cloudy to mostly sunny sky.

For tonight, cloud cover builds in with temperatures falling to the 50s.

Monday will bring a return of isolated to scattered showers to the forecast with lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s under a cloudy sky.

Tuesday will be mainly just shower activity off and on throughout the day with even a few storms possible in the afternoon. Temperatures will bring lows in the 60s and highs in the 70s.

Our chance for storms comes with a very low severe threat at a marginal risk on Tuesday. Meaning an isolated storm or two may have some extra intensity. Damaging wind would be the main threat if we did get a stronger storm.

Wednesday just brings a slight chance for rain as lows sit in the 60s and highs rise into the 70s under a partly cloudy sky.

We remain dry for Thursday with a mostly sunny sky as lows sit in the 60s and highs into the mid-80s.

Scattered storms return to the forecast for Friday with lows in the 60s and highs in the mid-70s.

Saturday will drop rain chances to just a slight chance as lows will be in the 60s and highs in the lower 80s under a mostly cloudy sky.

We have a lot of rain chances this next week and you can expect anywhere from one to three inches to occur over the next week.
