UNION CITY, Ga. -- People and organizations across the nation are pitching in to help coastal states that are expected to be affected by Hurricane Florence.
In Georgia, the American Red Cross is shipping supplies to help with the relief efforts.
Crews at the Disaster Field Supply Center in Union City are expected to load 15 trailers full of items Tuesday that will go to evacuees.
A hurricane watch has been issued for some areas. At last check, the storm was located about 370 miles south of Bermuda, or 845 miles east of Cape Fear, North Carolina, moving to the west at 17 mph. An increase in forward speed during the next couple of days. It's expected to make landfall Thursday.
Georgia is expected to be on the quiet side of the storm.
The Atlanta Motor Speedway is opening its campsites to hurricane evacuees. Last year, the speedway opened their sites free of charge to evacuees of Hurricane Irma. Now, they’re doing the same thing for Florence evacuees.
The campground will be free of charge for dry RV and tent campers in the Legends Campground. For full hookup sites, it will cost $20 a night.
