Shower, storm chances return Friday through the weekend

Neither day looks like a washout, but you'll want to keep outdoor plans flexible.

ATLANTA — After a couple of bright and dry days in north Georgia, humidity and the chance of rain moves back into our area.

The 11Alive StormTrackers are tracking an unsettled setup for the weekend with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Neither day looks like a washout, but each day, some areas will get rain.

Dewpoints climb into the 60s, and a front approaches from the northwest. The combination of these two helps to spark daily showers and storms. Although we don't expect organized severe weather, storms could bring locally heavy rain, lightning, and a few gusty winds to the area.

Friday's rain chance is just 30%. Clouds build in by the morning with a stray shower possible. Isolated showers and a few storms develop in the afternoon with daytime heating.

Isolated showers may continue through Friday night and into Saturday morning. Again, the most favorable time for rain on Saturday will be in the afternoon to evening as daytime heating helps to fuel the atmosphere.

The front will be closest to our area Saturday night, so Saturday brings our highest rain chance of the weekend. Scattered showers and thunderstorms develop in the afternoon and evening.

Sunday again brings another chance for showers and a few storms. Isolated showers will kick off the morning, with better coverage of showers and storms in the afternoon.

Rain chances linger at the start of next week, but coverage will overall be very isolated.

Due to the scattered nature of the rain, the amount people see at their location will vary widely. Some areas could see rain totals over 1 inch between Friday and Monday, while other areas may see less than 1/4".

Outside of our rain chances, it will stay warm and muggy. In fact, next week looks even hotter with still summer-like humidity. The National Weather Service described next week as having "Habanero temps." That's fairly accurate. Highs will soar to around 90 degrees by the middle of next week, with isolated showers and storms developing each day.
