ATLANTA — There is a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms across much of Georgia Friday afternoon and evening.
Gulf moisture has started to shift northward bringing more humid and rainy conditions across much of Georgia. As a result, the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the Southeastern states -- including most of the state of Georgia -- under a Marginal Risk area for severe weather for Friday afternoon and evening.
According to 11Alive meteorologist Chesley McNeal, the area affected is south of a Rome to Sky Valley line, and includes all of metro Atlanta.
WEATHER THREATS
The primary weather threats are gusty winds, heavy rains and lightning in any areas hit by a stronger thunderstorm. Isolated severe thunderstorms over some portions of the metro area cannot be ruled out.
WHEN TO EXPECT STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to begin in Georgia before noon, with increasing coverage across much of the area throughout the remainder of the day on Friday.
THIS WEEKEND
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage and intensity Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night and continue through the remainder of the weekend.
POSSIBLE FLOODING
Flooding in some areas may become a growing concern by the latter portion of the weekend due to the continuing rounds of showers and thunderstorms.
