ATLANTA - Three people were rushed to the hospital after an accident at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Maynard Terrace in southeast Atlanta, Thursday.
Sgt. Stephanie Stallings, spokeswoman for the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), said it all started just before 10 a.m., on Thanksgiving Day when a trooper attempted to pull over a gold car after noticing it did not have a license plate.
The two suspects in the car took off heading towards the I-20 East ramp to Maynard Terrace. Authorities noticed the passenger in the car toss a weapon out the window. GSP chased the suspects North on Maynard Terrace to Memorial Drive where the vehicle ran a red light and was t-boned by an oncoming black Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the Tahoe was not seriously injured and was taken to the hospital for observation. The suspects in the fleeing car, later identified as 20-year-old Bruce Edwards and 20-year-old Sha-mel Stallworth, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C., were taken to the hospital in serious condition, Stallings said.
A GSP spokesperson said both are convicted felons.
GSP recovered the weapon from the roadway and is working to find out the reason the suspects fled.
The driver, Edwards, was charged with reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device, failure to maintain lane, driving while license suspended, theft by receiving stolen property, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Stallworth, the passenger, was charged with theft by receiving stolen property, reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
