MONROE, Ga. — A lawyer who served as an assistant attorney general and part-time judge is accused of sexually exploiting children.
George Randolph Jeffery, 58, was arrested on Friday on a dozen charges of child exploitation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the FBI are investigating this case.
Jeffery served as a special assistant attorney general for the Georgia Department of Human Services in the child support services division in Walton and Newton counties, according to the office of Attorney General Chris Carr.
“Attorney General Carr opposes any and all forms of child exploitation and abuse. We hold our Special Assistant Attorneys General to very high standards,” Carr’s office said in a statement.
Jeffery was fired after the office got news of his arrest, effective on Nov. 9.
According to the federal grand jury indictment, Jeffery is accused of attempting to entice a minor online and possession of child pornography.
If convicted of enticing a minor, Jeffrey could face at least 10 years in prison or life behind bars. He could also be forced to pay a $250,000 fine and be under supervision for the rest of his life. For possession of child porn, Jeffery could face up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a maximum of life supervised release.
Attorneys representing Jeffrey told 11Alive he plans to plead innocent to all charges.
