3 dead, including child, after apparent murder-suicide: DeKalb Police

Here's what we know.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Three people are dead, including a child, after an apparent murder-suicide in DeKalb County Monday, the police department said.

DeKalb Police said officers responded to the 3100 block of Briarcliff Rd NE, which is near the Audubon Briarcliff Apartments.

When officers arrived, they said they found two adults and one child dead. In an update, DeKalb Police said they found a 7-year-old boy, a 49-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man dead inside the home.

At this time, investigators believe it was an apparent murder-suicide.

11Alive confirmed the boy attended Sagamore Hills Elementary School.

"It is with deep sadness that I inform you about the tragic loss of one of our students. Without question, this news is difficult to hear, and we want to extend our heartfelt condolences to the student's family, friends, and classmates," Sagamore Hill Elementary School Principal Karen Williams wrote in a letter.

The school did not release any other specific details. However, Williams wrote in the letter the school will have support and counseling available for students and staff-- for individual or group sessions.

"Everyone processes grief differently. I encourage you to discuss this news with your child in an appropriate way for your family. Please be aware of any emotional changes your child may experience in the coming days and week," Williams wrote.

Williams said to keep the student's family, other students and staff in their thoughts.

"As a strong and caring school community, we know many of you will want to help somehow. I will keep you informed if any assistance is needed," Williams added.

DeKalb Police said their investigation remains ongoing.
