Homicide investigation underway after man found dead in Paulding County home, deputies say

Paulding County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on the Riverbend Trail in the Emerald Point Subdivision on Jan. 11 around 3:40 p.m.

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. — A homicide investigation is underway in Paulding County after a 30-year-old man was found shot to death in his home last month, according to the sheriff's office

Paulding County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home on the Riverbend Trail in the Emerald Point Subdivision in Douglassville on Jan. 11 around 3:40 p.m. when a neighbor found the resident of the home unresponsive.

When law enforcement authorities arrived at the home, they found Charvis Baulding shot to death.

Detectives with the sheriff's office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents arrived at the scene to investigate. They spoke to neighbors and family members who had arrived after the incident happened.

Shortly after speaking to witnesses, investigators believed his death was a potential homicide due to the "unusual and suspicious circumstances."

Following an autopsy from the GBI Medical Examiner's Office, Baulding's death was officially ruled a homicide.

Sheriff's deputies said, "There is no indication that residents of this neighborhood or surrounding areas are, or ever were, in any immediate danger."

“This is a very complex case. We have taken an enormous amount of time to ensure that no stone has been left unturned in this investigation," said Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge. "I know it may seem like we may not be working as quickly as the family may want, but we are working diligently in conjunction with the GBI to ensure we find out who killed Charvis Baulding. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his grieving family.”

Police are asking those who may know anything about the case to contact the anonymous tip line at 770-443-3047. Neighbors should call 911 to report any suspicious activity they may witness and be alert of their surroundings.
