Double shooting at Atlanta apartment complex claims one man's life

Police say they are looking for five suspects and pouring over surveillance video

ATLANTA — Atlanta Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at the Retreat at Greenbriar apartments on Greenbriar Parkway Friday night.

“It appears that there was a conflict between the two males and an opposing group, which ended up with the two males being shot," said Lt. Andrew Smith.

During the day on Saturday, there were still signs of the tragedy that took place when police came out to respond to this shooting. One resident told 11Alive she saw a man’s body pulled right out of the woods with paramedics working on him right there.

“I saw the police going off into the woods, and about 10 minutes later, they brought a body out and laid it on the ground. There's so much crime and stuff going on over here to where we are just throwing our hands up and praying because it's getting terrible," said one resident, who did not want to be identified.

Police said the men were brothers. One of them, Tabari Walters, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other brother is listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

Now, police say they are looking over surveillance video and think there are five suspects.

For residents, the shooting has left them feeling uneasy and sad. Another who spoke to 11Alive but also didn't want to be identified simply said, “Put the guns down, y'all! Please stop the violence. It's not worth it. It's not worth it at all."
