Man shot, woman hurt in apparent domestic incident, Atlanta police said

According to investigators, a man intervened during an apparent domestic incident.

ATLANTA — A man was shot and wounded and a woman was hurt when a man stepped into the middle of an apparent domestic incident in southeast Atlanta early Saturday morning.

Police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Hank Aaron Drive S.E., at about 3 a.m. after receiving a report of a person shot.

According to Atlanta Police Officer Jarius Daugherty, when officers arrived, they discovered a man identified as Quartez Goodman with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

The preliminary police investigation indicates that Goodman went to the apartment complex and began to assault a woman. Officers on the scene said the incident was an apparent domestic dispute. During that incident, Goodman pulled out a handgun and pointed it at her.

At that point, according to Daugherty, another man apparently intervened and tried to stop the assault. Goodman then turned and advanced on the second man, who, according to Daugherty, pulled out a gun of his own and shot Goodman in the chest.

Goodman was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Daugherty said that the woman involved in the altercation was also taken to Grady to be treated for injuries she received during the assault.

Daugherty said that Goodman was charged with aggravated assault and battery in connection with the incident.

Police are continuing their investigation of the incident.
