GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The woman who police say caused a three-car, eight-person crash Wednesday night that left two children dead has been charged in the past with at least one DUI and a number of other driving offenses, records show.
Cindy Catalan-Ordonez, 28, is expected to be arrested after she leaves the hospital where she currently remains.
She has already been charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle, one count of reckless driving and one other charge.
Her condition is unknown.
Records show Catalan-Ordonez has at least one previous DUI charge, in 2013. That’s one among a number of previous charges, ranging from 2013 to last year, that include speeding, improper lane change, following too closely and twice driving with a suspended license.
Gwinnett County Police say Catalan-Ordonez crossed into oncoming traffic on Wednesday night on Steve Reynolds Boulevard in unincorporated Norcross and struck a car carrying Ruthy Kim, Rachana Tep and their two children.
The children, 8-year-old Vincent Kim and 14-year-old Kristin Kim, were killed in the crash.
The crash also forced the Kims’ car into a trailing vehicle driven by 22-year-old Jaleia Foxx, whose 1-year-old daughter Emma Foxx was inside. The infant survived, though her condition is also unknown.
An additional adult, 22-year-old Janelle Roberson, was traveling in Foxx’s car. All eight people involved were taken to the hospital.
Police have not released the conditions of any of the surviving adults.
“Though the loss of life in any traffic collision is terrible, it is especially heart-breaking when the death involves a child,” Gwinnett Police said in a release on Thursday.
