Former coach of US soccer player Kelley O'Hara: I knew she would be something special

He described her as a competitive athlete who has always found ways to be successful.

Soccer fans will have their eyes on the U.S. and the Netherlands as they face off in the FIFA Women's World Cup Final on Sunday.

Three of the players on the U.S Women's National Soccer Team are from Georgia.

Kelley O’Hara, a defender for the Utah Royals FC, is from Fayetteville. She's considered a valued vet on the team and will be playing in her third World Cup. It's no surprise to her former coach, Brian Moore.

“I knew she would be something special," he said.

He described her as a competitive athlete who has always found ways to be successful.

“She was a relentless goal scorer, probably braver than anybody I’d ever seen," he said.

Moore said he coached her in the early 2000s when she was 12 through 14 and then again in her late teens.

“There were three different clubs, there was AFC Lightning, Peachtree City Lazers and then Concorde Fire South," he said.

And on those teams, he said she put her teammates first.

"She made practices better, players around her better," he added.

He said that he's seen her growth over the years and is proud of her accomplishments. He continues to watch all of her games.

Also on the U.S. women's team is Emily Sonnett from Marietta and Morgan Brian, who was born in St. Simons Island.

Moore hopes the team will do well and has one main message for his former player: "Do  your thing Kell, kick butt, and go USA."
