JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — A 69-year-old man is dead and his son in jail after a shooting in Johns Creek on Thursday evening.

Johns Creek Police said they responded to a 911 call at just before 8 p.m. They were warned about a man dressed all in black who was armed with a handgun. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as 40-year-old Gregory William Painter, outside the home and detained him.

They then found the 69-year-old victim, Jim Gregory Painter, inside shot multiple times. The victim's wife - and the suspect's mother - was also inside.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the son shot his father while all three were in the home. However, the motive and other facts surrounding the shooting haven't yet been determined. Police said the investigation is still in the very early stages.

The son has since been taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault and murder. He's being held at the Fulton County Jail.
