DECATUR, Ga. — A 16-year-old was killed near a busy Decatur intersection Monday.

Decatur Police Department crash investigators said the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 7:17 p.m. at the intersection of East College Avenue and Commerce Drive, not far from Three Taverns Craft Brewery. Police identified him Tuesday as Kevin Valente of Scottdale, Georgia. Valente died due to his injuries, police say.

The driver involved stayed on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said. It's unclear if charges will be filed.

Police said it is still investigating the circumstances of the crash.

In September, a crossing guard with Decatur PD was struck in a hit-and-run less than a mile away from the location at a nearby busy intersection. The area is not far from Decatur High School near Agnes Scott College.
