Boil water advisory lifted for City of Fairburn, officials say

Officials said the advisory comes after a pump malfunction at the Chattahoochee Water Treatment plant.

FAIRBURN, Ga. — A boil water advisory has been lifted for the City of Fairburn on Wednesday, according to an update from the Department of Watershed Management (DWM).

DWM officials said the water sampling had been finished and that no contamination was found in the public water system.

Officials said in the update, "The City's drinking water meets or exceeds standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EP) as required by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been notified."

On Tuesday, DWM officials said they issued a boil water advisory for the City of Fairburn "out of an abundance of caution." Earlier on Tuesday, officials also said residents and businesses in the South Fulton area may experience low water pressure.

Officials said the advisory came after a pump malfunction at the Chattahoochee Water Treatment plant.

"The pump is operable and DWM is monitoring operations and systems pressures," officials said in a release.

The DWM previously said residents experiencing water outages and/or low water pressure are also advised to boil water prior to use or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, preparing baby food or brushing teeth. The water should be boiled for one minute past a rolling boil.

"DWM is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of residents across the City of Atlanta and the City of Fairburn," officials said in the update. "We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this current issue."
