All clear issued after bomb threat prompts evacuation at Sylvan Hills Middle School, district says

Here's what we know.

ATLANTA — A bomb threat prompted a heavy police presence and the evacuation of the building at an Atlanta middle school Thursday afternoon, according to district officials. 

A spokesperson with Atlanta Public Schools (APS) told 11Alive a bomb threat was texted to Sylvan Hills Middle School, causing the school to go on an interior lockdown. 

Nearly two hours later, the district confirmed that the building had been cleared after a thorough search. Normal operations will resume on Friday.

The district said students and staff were evacuated to Perkerson Park, where dismissal took place. Parents were notified of both the lockdown and evacuation.
