Train robbed in Atlanta, police say

Right now, details about the incident are limited.

ATLANTA — It sounds like something out of the Wild West, but it happened in Atlanta on Saturday. A train was robbed.

The Atlanta Police Department confirmed a reported robbery happened on Saturday.

The train was positioned along the tracks crossing Parratt Avenue in northwest Atlanta. That is located near the southern crossing of the perimeter over the Chattahoochee River.

Right now, officials have not released any additional details in the incident. Atlanta Police said Norfolk Southern is the responding agency to this incident.

11Alive saw officers picking up boxes left sitting along the tracks.

The rampant theft from trains on Union Pacific tracks near downtown L.A. in California has at times left tracks covered in a sea of discarded boxes, wrappers and unwanted items.

This is a developing story. It will be updated as information becomes available.
