Woman accused in Gwinnett County man's murder granted bond, records show

Leondre Flynt was missing for months before Destiny Stephens had been arrested in connection with his death.

ATLANTA — A 20-year-old woman who faces charges in connection to the death of 21-year-old Leondre Flynt was granted bond Tuesday, according to Fulton County Superior Court records.

A bond hearing was held for Destiny Stephens at 9:30 a.m. Records show Stephens was granted a $150,000 bond with the stipulation that she must not have contact with Flynt's family. In October, Stephens was previously taken into custody on murder and concealing a death charges, according to warrants obtained by 11Alive.

Flynt's cousin, Shannon Wilson said she is infuriated that Stephens could be let out by Thanksgiving.

"They actually took my auntie in custody...when she heard that she (Stephens) had bond," Wilson said. "You know she just yelled out (in court), 'Where’s his body?' Because we still haven’t found his body."

According to warrants previously obtained by 11Alive, surveillance video captured two women getting out of Flynt's truck, buying a hand saw and bolt cutter at Lowe's on the last day he was seen alive. Police investigators have identified one of the women in the video as Stephens.

"It’s very hard, I mean, I say it a lot but it makes me extremely angry," Wilson said. "You have to be responsible for your actions."

As of Tuesday, Fulton County Jail records show Stephens is still in custody. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Stephens on Monday, Jan. 8, 2024.

On the morning of July 29, Flynt disappeared after he left his home in Loganville to pick up a part he had ordered from an auto store. His family said he never made it to the store and his truck was later found abandoned in Detroit. A missing persons' report was filed out of Gwinnett County.

Then, on Aug. 16, Atlanta Police served a search warrant at the Marquis at Buckhead apartment complex. Flynt's family said this was the last place he had used his phone. The family previously said Flynt had been talking to a woman he recently met online who lived off Peachtree Road.

During the search warrant, an officer wrote in the report, "...items of evidentiary value were collected." It went on to state, "Based off the circumstances of Leondre's disappearance and the evidence collected, the Homicide Unit believed Leondre had been killed."

Later that day, APD's homicide unit took over the investigation.

Months after Flynt had been reported missing, Destiny Stephens was arrested on Oct. 12. She faces charges along with another woman and a man, according to warrants. 11Alive obtained warrants that revealed gruesome details about the investigation so far.

As for those two other suspects, APD has not publicly named them but warrants show one of them leased the apartment where the family believes Flynt was killed.
