AUSTIN, Texas — KVUE wants to wish a local World War II veteran a happy birthday!
Carl Shepherd turns 100 years young on Tuesday.
Carl served as a gunner's mate on the USS Rocky Mount in the South Pacific.
He was born in Williamson County and is the youngest of eight kids. After the war, he got married and moved to Central Austin and has been in the same home ever since.
Carl is still very active today. He takes care of yard work, and he cooks for himself. He also rides his exercise bike three times a week.
