Community mourns death of Fannin County volunteer firefighter

FANNIN COUNTY, Ga. — A Fannin County community is mourning the death of one of its beloved volunteer firefighters. 

Fannin County Fire Rescue shared on social media that Mary McGuire had passed away. 

According to the Fannin County coroner, McGuire was rushed to a hospital on Feb. 18, where she went into cardiac arrest and died. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. 

The fire department is asking the community to keep her family and loved ones in their thoughts and prayers.

"Mary had an infectious smile, and her competitive nature kept her fellow firefighters on their toes. She will be missed by all," the Facebook post said.

The Fannin County Emergency Management Agency shared the funeral arrangements online. Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb 25, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home in Blairsville, Georgia.

The funeral service will take place Monday, Feb. 26. A firefighter procession will escort Mcguire from the funeral home to service at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville. The service will begin at 11 a.m.
