Atlanta Hawks' Vince Carter wants to play 22nd season, breaking NBA all-time record

With the Hawks this year, Carter averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 17.5 minutes of court time over 76 games.

ATLANTA — Vince Carter's ready to make NBA history next year, in terms of breaking the league's all-time record for seasons played.

On Carter's podcast this week, the Hawks veteran revealed his plans for a 22nd season – eclipsing the four-way record of 21 years shared by Carter, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dirk Nowitzki and John Stockton.

(Note: Hall of Famer Moses Malone enjoyed 21 professional seasons, as well, but two took place in the American Basketball Association.)

"Yeah, I'm coming back ... I would like to. We'll see what happens," said the 42-year-old Carter, who's spent time with the Raptors, Nets, Suns, Hawks, Kings, Grizzlies, Mavericks and Magic.

Now comes the tricky part: Carter's contract with the Hawks expires next month, meaning he might have to sell another team on the vision of playing a 22nd season.

With the Hawks this year, Carter averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 17.5 minutes of court time over 76 games.

During his prime years (1998-2009), Carter played at an elite level for 11 straight seasons, posting cumulative averages of 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.2 assists, while shooting 45 percent from the field.

At this moment, Carter ranks fifth all-time in games played (1,481), trailing Stockton, Nowitzki, Kareem and Robert Parish (the leader at 1,611 games).
