Stetson Bennett returned to Sanford Stadium vs. Ole Miss to collect the Burlsworth Trophy -- his first public appearance in Athens since the parade.

ATHENS, Ga. — When the Dawgs take the field against Ole Miss on Saturday night, they'll have a very familiar face in the house cheering them on.

Two-time national championship-winning quarterback Stetson Bennett is inside Sanford Stadium at the Georgia-Ole Miss game, a moment that sent the crowd into a frenzy, according to a tweet from 11Alive's Maria Martin.

Bennett received the Burlsworth Trophy Saturday night -- the award that is given to the nation’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.

This is Bennett's first known public appearance since he was placed on the non-football injury list by the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13 for what head coach Sean McVay described as an issue "bigger than" football. On Oct. 30, McVay said it was unlikely that Bennett would return to the team this NFL season.

It was also Bennett's first public appearance back inside Sanford Stadium for a regular season game since Georgia's national championship parade after winning his second title with the team back in January.

On Sept. 23, McVay told reporters that he spoke to Bennett over the phone the previous weekend and that he was doing "very well."

It'll definitely be exciting for Bulldog fans to see Bennett back Between the Hedges to give him a much-deserved rousing ovation after being selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft back in April.

While at Georgia, Bennett was 29-3 as the starting quarterback for Georgia, leading them to back-to-back national championships in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, with wins over Alabama and TCU, respectively. Bennett also owns the record for most passing yards in any UGA single season with 4,127 last year and is fourth all-time in passing yards with 8,428.
