ATHENS, Ga. — There's been a lot of talk recently about hockey in Georgia, specifically the possible return of the NHL to metro Atlanta at either The Gathering at South Forsyth or the Northpoint Mall location in Alpharetta.
While local hockey fans wait for that news, they will have another professional team to cheer on.
A new team is coming to Athens and will begin play this fall in the independent professional Federal Prospects Hockey League.
The club will play home games in the new Classic Center Arena in Athens.
According to team officials, fans will vote on the name of the club on its various social media channels. The finalists are the Athenians, the Owls, the Rock Lobsters and the Classic City Panic.
The arena will also be the home ice for the University of Georgia club team, the Ice Dawgs.
