TRAFFIC | Monitoring issues on a stormy morning in metro Atlanta

We'll provide updates throughout the morning as traffic issues arise around Atlanta.

ATLANTA — Stormy conditions are impacting Georgia and metro Atlanta on Tuesday morning, and with that comes dangerous traffic conditions.

We'll provide updates throughout the morning as traffic issues arise around Atlanta -- and follow 11Alive Traffic Tracker Crash Clark on X for the most up-to-date alerts.

Metro Atlanta traffic conditions and updates Tuesday, Jan. 9


Roads closed in Rockdale County

The following roads are closed due to flooding, according to Rockdale County Emergency Management:

  • Norton Rd at Eastview
  • Lester Rd at Lake Rockaway
  • Hi Roc Circle NE
  • Area of Briarlea Path SE and Brentwood Crossing
  • Lake Capri Rd NW
  • Black Shoals Park is also closed due to flooding, please avoid the area

I-20 East 

All lanes are blocked on I-20 E at Lee Rd due to a crash.

I-75 connector to I-85

The ramp for the 75/85 N exit is blocked due to a stall. Avoid travel in this direction and use alternate routes. 

Roads closed in Henry County

Henry County Emergency officials have labeled the following roads as "impassable."

  • Highway 3 and Dodgen Road, in Hampton
  • Highway 155 and Campground
  • Highway 81 East and Angie Drive
  • 138 South Salem Drive (address)

I-285

Two lanes are blocked on I-285 S before Northlake Pkwy(mm 35.7) due to road flooding.

I-75 North

All lanes are blocked on I-75 N at SR 87 /Riverside Dr. (mm 171) due to a crash. 

Northside Drive

A fallen tree is blocking Northside Drive in both directions.

I-75 South

The far left lane & left shoulder are blocked on I-75 S at Cumberland Blvd. (mm 258.2) due to a crash.

I-20 East

Two lanes are blocked on I-20 E at SR 155/Candler Rd. (mm 65.31) due to a crash.  

I-75 South

One left lane and the shoulder are blocked on I-75 S at Northside Dr. (mm 252.2) due to a crash.

I-75 North

Multiple lanes of I-75 North are blocked at Cumberland Blvd due to a crash

State Road 53 at Cain Trail

All lanes are blocked on SR 53 at Cain Trail (mm 6.8) due to downed power lines.

I-20 West

Two left lanes and the shoulder blocked just before 6:30 a.m. on I-20 West before Candler Road.

GDOT gives an estimated end time of 7 a.m.

I-75/85 North

Crash blocks a lane at Edgewood Ave. Should be cleared quickly.

Gwinnett County

GA-316 at Boggs Road with a temporary closure of some lanes:

I-575 South

Stall has some delays before Riverstone Parkway:

I-85 North to I-285 East ramp 

This issue down by the airport could be tricky for a while - a tractor trailer overturned on the ramp here and as of 5 a.m. had it entirely closed. No word on injuries at this time.

Definitely plan ahead if you have to pass through this way -- the Georgia Department of Transportation currently has an estimated end time of 6 a.m.

Best way around this one is probably just to go up to exit at Camp Creek Parkway and then head back east to I-85 or the airport.

Downtown Atlanta

Signal issue at Northside & MLK Jr. Drive in Downtown Atlanta to watch out for"

I-285 North

We're seeing a crash just after 5 a.m. on I-285 North on the Eastside Perimeter just before US-78/Stone Mountain Freeway. GDOT lists one right lane closed.

Paulding County

GA-360/Macland Road is closed at Richmond Drive, a little after Hwy. 92, due to flooding.

Fannin County

GA-60 North at River Road blocked due to a downed tree.
