Overturned semi blocks I-85 southbound in Gwinnett County

The semi-truck somehow overturned by Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Traffic is nearly at a standstill Tuesday along Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County after a semi-truck overturned, blocking three southbound lanes.

Georgia Department of Transportation officials issued an alert around 4:30 p.m. describing the incident as a "major crash involving an overturned tractor-trailer." All but one right lane on I-85 south are blocked by the vehicle at Exit 99 at Jimmy Carter Boulevard by Norcross.

"All lanes will be blocked for wrecker maneuvers," GDOT said in its alert. 

Gwinnett County Police Department clarified five lanes along I-85 south and one northbound lane are closed.

Officials said they do not know how long it will take to clear the crash and is advising other drivers to avoid the area as long delays are expected. GDOT did not say if anyone is hurt or how the tractor-trailer flipped onto its side.
