MARTA Red Line shutting down south of Dunwoody temporarily

Bus shuttles and Uber vouchers will be available to riders affected.

ATLANTA — MARTA'S Red Line rail service south of Dunwoody will be shut down for five days, starting on Friday night, Feb.18, according to the transit authority.

The reason for the suspension of service is to replace the tracks, north bound and south bound, in the section of line between the Buckhead and Medical Center stations.

MARTA expects the track replacement to be completed by Feb. 24 at 4 a.m.

MARTA said in a statement that even though the section of the Red Line will be closed for five days, "rail service north of Dunwoody and south of Lindbergh, and service on the Gold Line and Blue and Green Lines (east/west) will operate normally."

For customers impacted by the closure, there will be free bus shuttles connecting the Dunwoody, Medical Center, Buckhead, and Lenox stations, which, according to MARTA, will run continuously from 9 p.m. on Friday to Wednesday Feb. 23.

MARTAConnect will also be available and the transit authority said it will provide a link to a $15 Uber or Lyft voucher which can be downloaded and used twice daily to travel to and from affected rail stations.

According to MARTA, the voucher can be downloaded using QR codes at the rail stations, off MARTA’s social media accounts, or by clicking on one of the following:

MARTA said it will have signs, station agents, and transit ambassadors at those rail stations impacted who will be able to assist riders in getting to shuttles.

Additionally, MARTA said those who drive and park at the North Springs, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody stations for southbound service should park at Doraville or Lindbergh stations during the project.

The track replacement is part of MARTA's seven-year project to replace tracks throughout its rail system.
