Atlanta Airport tops list as world's busiest airport, again: Report

It was released on Sunday and once again puts the Atlanta Airport as number one in 2023.

ATLANTA — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has once again solidified its position as a global aviation powerhouse, topping the list of the busiest airports worldwide, according to the Airports Council International's preliminary report. 

It was released on Sunday and once again puts the Atlanta Airport as number one in 2023. Serving as Delta Air Lines' primary hub, Atlanta welcomed an impressive 104.7 million passengers, maintaining its reign at the forefront of the aviation industry, the study said. 

While airports worldwide experienced a resurgence in passenger traffic, Atlanta stood out in stability and growth and is also expected to host the 2024 ACI World Customer Experience Summit and Exhibition.

Other key points from the report: 

  • A global recovery in air travel, which saw international traffic approaching pre-pandemic levels, boosted the industry's expansion. 
  • Dubai International Airport rises to second place, while Tokyo Haneda International Airport jumps from 16th to 5th place in the rankings.
  • Cargo traffic remains crucial for world commerce, with Hong Kong International Airport maintaining its top position.
