Parts of metro Atlanta under flash flood warning as storms move through

11Alive is tracking the latest weather developments as storms move in.

ATLANTA — Showers and storms are moving through metro Atlanta causing flooding in some parts. 

All of north Georgia is included in the marginal level 1 risk for severe weather.  Storms may be capable of producing heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty, even damaging winds.

11 p.m. | 11Alive's Chief Meteorologist Chris Holcomb said the heaviest rain has moved on through. The flash flood warning remains for parts of the metro until 1:45 a.m. 

10 p.m. DeKalb Fire crews were on the scene after a house was struck by lightning in Redan, Georgia.

8:34 p.m. | Video from social media shows flooding on I-285 near The Battery.

8:11 p.m. According to GDOT 511GA, there are several interstate and road closures: 

  • I-285 Southbound at Covington Highway. All lanes closed.
  • Westbound exit to I-75 SB. All lanes closed.
  • Cooper Lake Road. All lanes closed.
  • SR 8 both directions at Andrews Drive. All lanes closed.

8:04 p.m. The NWS in Peachtree has issued a flash flood warning for the following parts of the metro until 1:45 a.m.: 

Clayton County 

Cobb County-- central 

DeKalb County 

Douglas County-- northeastern 

Fayette County-- northern

Fulton County 

Gwinnett County-- southwestern

Henry County-- western 

Rockdale County-- southwestern

7:52 p.m. Atlanta Fire Rescue said crews responded to Grand Avenue after a man was struck by lightning. He was taken to Grady Hospital alert, conscious and breathing. 

7:48 p.m. | A flash flood warning has been issued for Fulton County until 1:45 a.m.

7:16 p.m. | Henry County is also under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:45 p.m. 

7:06 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been extended for DeKalb, Gwinnett and Rockdale counties until 7:45 p.m. 

6:34 p.m. Fulton, Forsyth, DeKalb, Cherokee, Cobb and Gwinnett counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 7:15 p.m. 

6:31 p.m. | Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Paulding, Bartow, Polk and Cobb counties until 7:15 p.m. 

6:03 p.m. Roswell Police said there's flooding on westbound Hwy 92 near Bent Grass Drive. They warned drivers to not drive through it.

5:51 p.m. | Fulton, Paulding, Douglas, Carroll and Cobb counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:30 p.m. 

5:29 p.m. | Officials said a ground stop has been issued at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport due to the storms until 6:30 p.m.  

5:27 p.m. Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Heard, Coweta and Carroll counties until 5:45 p.m. 

5:13 p.m. | The National Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm warning for DeKalb, Cherokee, and Cobb counties. They join Fulton, Meriwether, Coweta counties.

5:08 p.m. | Fulton County is now under a severe thunderstorm warning. The alert has been extended for Meriwether and Coweta counties until 6 p.m.

4:42 p.m. | Meriwether, Coweta, and Troup counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 5 p.m.

4:15 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Paulding, Carroll, Polk, and Haralson County until 5 p.m.

4:10 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Fulton, Forsyth, and Gwinnett County until 5 p.m.

4:07 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Troup County until 4:45 p.m.

3:30 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Gordon County until 4:15 p.m.

3:22 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Henry County until 4 p.m.
