GEORGIA, USA — Severe weather has plagued much of the country this Memorial Day weekend, and storms arrive in Georgia on Monday.  An incoming cold front will push in our next round of rainfall by late Sunday night, early Monday.

Three things to know

  • Storms are most likely in the morning on Monday, but pop-up showers and storms could re-develop in the afternoon.
  • There is a threat for severe weather.
  • It will not be a washout. Stay weather aware and keep an eye on the radar if you have outdoor plans.

Isolated strong to severe storms are possible.  The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted all of north Georgia in the slight (level 2) risk for severe weather Monday.

We'll be on the lookout for storms capable of producing heavy rain, frequent lightning, gusty winds and hail.

A spin-up tornado can't be ruled out, but risk is low.  Tornado threat is the highest pre-dawn in far northwest GA.

Isolated pop-ups may re-develop in the afternoon.

Storm coverage for the second half of the day may be impacted by morning storms.  If the atmosphere is worked over enough from the morning rainfall, storm development will be more limited.  The afternoon is likely drier than the morning.
