Severe weather knocks down trees, ushers in blast of cold in Atlanta area on Halloween

Things are expected to get very wet, then very cold.

ATLANTA — 10:57 p.m.: The number of people affected by the outages has ticked upward and is now roughly 3,200.

10:38 p.m.: Georgia Power reports that the customers affected by the outages are now down to roughly 2,900. 

9:58 p.m.: As of just before 10 p.m., Georgia Power was reporting more than 50 outages affecting roughly 5,000 customers. The estimated restoration time is 12:30 a.m., Nov. 1

8:12 p.m.: Another tree fell off Norflet Road NW.

6:48 p.m.: The StormTrackers are monitoring a freeze warning in effect for most of North Georgia and metro Atlanta until about 10 a.m., Friday. Temperatures in those areas will start off right around freezing, even some upper 20s are possible in the higher elevations.

6:17 p.m.: A tree fell into a retention wall off the ramp to I-285 south near I-20 east in DeKalb County. The right two lanes of three were impacted.

5:33 p.m.: A tree has fallen into the middle of the road on Johnson Ferry Road at Ralph David Abernathy.

5:17 p.m.: Video shared by the Nora Mill Granary in Helen, Georgia shows the swollen Chattahoocee River after drenching rains moved through.

5:08 p.m.: A tree is down on a house at 1427 Belmont Ave. SW. No one was injured.

4:12 p.m.: The City will open an emergency warming center at 9:00 p.m. Thursday night in anticipation of frigid temperatures. 

The center is located at the Old Adamsville Recreation Center, 3404 Delmar Lane NW, Atlanta, GA 30331. Men, women & children are welcome. Contact 404-615-4955 for more info. 

2:39 p.m.: Service has been restored to the Streetcar.

2:05 p.m.: A man was left dead by a falling tree in Sandy Springs. The incident happened on Mt. Paran Road.

1:52 p.m.: Flood waters near Park Place in Atlanta caused delays as the Streetcar was forced to suspend operations. 

1:45 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for DeKalb, Rockdale, Gwinnett, Barrow, Walton and Newton Counties until 2:15 p.m.

1:31 p.m.: Town Creek Church and Frogtown roads in Lumpkin County are closed due to a large tree down. 

1:29 p.m.: The roadway is closed at 7 Mile Hill Road and Colonial Drive due to a large tree down with downed power lines. 

1:10 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Spalding, Fayette, western Henry, eastern Coweta, south central Fulton, and Clayton Counties until 1:30pm.

The National Weather Service warns of winds up to 60 mph and penny-sized hail and possible tornadoes.
