'Opening my home I think was a no-brainer': Facebook group helps Florence evacuees find lodging

The Facebook group, Hurricane Florence Lodging for Evacuees, is full of people with big hearts.

Social media is a proving to be a helpful resource connecting Florence evacuees to good Samaritans, opening their homes to perfect strangers.

The Facebook group, Hurricane Florence Lodging for Evacuees, is full of people with big hearts.

Mary Rose is one of them. She moved to Snellville a month ago.

"Opening my home I think was a no-brainer," she said. "We're people with big hearts and our motto is to give unto others. I'm a giver."

For her, the potential threat of the hurricane hits home.

"We're a military family," she said. "So we've been through Bertha, Andrew, so we were without lights and we had just gone grocery shopping so our food spoiled. I said you know what I wouldn't want anyone to experience that where they had nowhere to go."

She's also inspired by the stories on Facebook.

"It was just continuous and people just posting where they were," she said. "It kinda pulls your heartstrings when you see that there are other people, so if we all make it a collective effort we can touch different lives at the same time."
