Man dead after dispute with roommates, landlord leads to SWAT standoff at DeKalb home: police

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A dispute led to shots being fired and a SWAT standoff with significant police presence at a home in DeKalb County Thursday morning, the police department said.

Authorities said it happened around 9 a.m. at the home along Bridgewater Branch in Stone Mountain. The home is near Panola Road and Redan Road.

11Alive SkyTracker flew over the scene, showing at least one ambulance on scene.

Detectives said their preliminary investigation revealed a man had fired several shots inside the home after a dispute with his landlord and roommates. 

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the home and threatened to shoot anyone who attempted to leave, the police department said.

SWAT officers were able to get four people out of the house safely, according to DeKalb County Police.

Authorities said that's when they found the suspect "unresponsive from an unknown cause." He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said an investigation remains ongoing to determine the cause of his death.
