HONDURAS, — A north Georgia man wanted since November 2023 on sexual assault charges was caught thousands of miles away in a small Honduras village, according to authorities.

Authorities posted a photo last week of the 25-year-old suspect standing in handcuffs between two police officers, announcing his arrest in the Peru village of La Ceiba.

The GBI said Friday he was returned to the United States on April 20 and booked into the Union County Detention Center on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated sodomy, with additional charges expected.

According to the Anti-Maras Police Directorate and Gangs Against Organized Crime (DIPAMPCO), through surveillance and intelligence work, officers were able to track the man down and arrest him on warrants out of the United States.

The warrants were issued after an investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) regarding a sexual assault in Suches.

In the first part of November, the GBI put out a BOLO for the accused. They believed he may have been heading to Florida, where he has family, along with a description of his truck at the time.

At some point, it was determined that he had left the country, and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) issued a Red Notice, which is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

According to the Red Notice, his charges out of Union County include Aggravated sodomy and Aggravated Assault. 11Alive is working to gather more information on the crime(s) that led to the warrants being issued on the suspect.
