ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Community Health has released an updated listing of licensed nursing homes and personal care homes of 25 beds or more where COVID-19 cases have been reported among residents or staff.
According to the report, which was updated at 2 p.m. on Friday, positive diagnoses have been confirmed at 230 facilities across the state of Georgia.
Gov. Brian Kemp has directed the Georgia National Guard to visit all long-term care facilities in the state to assess their condition and to establish a means of ensuring those facilities are free of COVID-19.
Last Monday, Kemp said he was directing the National Guard to use 60 teams to sanitize the facilities around the state.
"I charged General Carden with deploying teams to these facilities to sanitize and train staff on infection control measures to stop further spread," he said. "Utilizing 60 infection control teams, the Guard has cleaned 229 facilities."
Georgia National Guard Adjutant General Thomas Carden said that when they see the reports they go through and look at facilities they have already visited in order to determine if there are any other services they can provide.
"What we continue to do is go back and check with facilities as we see problems and challenges out there to see if there is another service we can provide to them," Carden said. "Whether it be training or again directing infection control."
Kemp pointed out other measures the Guard is taking at facilities around the state:
the Guard has 19 medical support teams - with most comprised of physicians, nurses, and medics - working in hospitals to assist with COVID-19 triage and treatment
60 service members working hospital entry at 21 hospitals
27 service members deployed at state isolation sites.
Service members stationed at 10 food distribution sites to assist with the delivery of goods
The long-term goal is to reduce the number of cases at facilities across the state.
