APD, Hyundai host anti-theft mobile clinic at Greenbriar Mall

Technicians are providing free anti-theft software updates for Hyundai owners.

ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department and Hyundai are hosting a three-day anti-theft mobile clinic at Greenbriar Mall this weekend.

The event is taking place Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. It's also being held on Sunday, Feb. 18, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Technicians are providing free anti-theft software updates for Hyundai owners.

"Unfortunately, because of social media craze, the criminal element has taken advantage of the Kias and Hyundais," Sgt. Andrew Fincher with APD's auto crime unit said at a press conference on Thursday.

In 2023, Fincher said nearly 1,800 Hyundai and Kia vehicles were stolen. Fincher added 93% of those vehicles were recovered.

"These vehicles are being stolen for the opportunity; almost 200 vehicles had firearms in them when they were stolen," Fincher said. "They're (the cars) are being utilized to go commit more crimes."
