1 dead following car fire in Buckhead on Peachtree Road, police say

Officials have not identified the person at this time. It is unclear how the car -- a Nissan Sentra -- caught fire.

ATLANTA — Police and firefighters are investigating after one person was found dead following a car fire in northeast Atlanta.

It happened on 2333 Peachtree Road NE, which is next to a Chevron Gas Station.

Officials have not identified the person at this time. It is unclear how the car -- a Nissan Sentra -- caught on fire.

"To my knowledge, from APD officers going on another call-- that was unrelated to this, as soon as he went by it burst into flames," Atlanta Fire BattalionChief Ronald Slatton said at the scene.

Slatton added fire crews responded quickly and the flames were put out in just a few minutes. He also said investigators believe there weren't any  witnesses.

Fire investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

"With it being such a sudden fire-- the way that it was reported," Slatton said. "It's definitely something out of the ordinary so that's why we have the investigators here checking it out."
